BAT COLONY OF SAMAL IS A GUINESS RECORD HOLDER

In the east from Davao City, the Samal Island,  you will find the nest of the Guinness World Record holder of  the largest colony of a specific bat called Geoffroy's Rousette. This specie is naturally rare and has homed the Monfort Cave of the island, which is now well-known as the Monfort Bat Sanctuary.

These bats are not the type to attack humans because they are unlike to those carnivorous kind. Actually, they are also called fruit bats. Just like any other bats, their senses are at most active during night. Their sense of smell and good eyesight enables them to locate immediately the food they preferred, which is a fruit in a tree.

Usually found and scatters around Asia, but the largest group could be found here in the Philippines, at the Island of Samal.

It now holds a record breaking number of over 2-million fruit bats in a single colony. That huge number has set Guinness to acknowledge such vast population of this type of bat.

Until now, no other place yet has ever break the record of Samal of holding the largest colony of this specie.

So, if it happens that you will visit Samal Island, why not explore to its record breaking wonders like the Monfort Cave. Then have a selfie atleast!

Explore.
